ashby-walker-headshotThe Department of Health Outcomes & Policy would like to welcome Ashby Walker, Ph.D., as the new director of education and training. Dr. Walker is an assistant professor in Health Outcomes and Policy who joined our faculty in 2014. She also holds affiliate appointments in the Department of Pediatrics and the Center for Gender, Sexualities and Women’s Studies Research at UF.

Prior to joining UF, Dr. Walker served as associate professor and chair of social sciences for Mars Hill University where she received multiple teaching and mentoring awards. Her area of research focus as a medical sociologist aims to promote health equity for youth living with Type 1 diabetes.

“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the department’s educational initiatives and want to acknowledge the groundwork laid by Mildred Maldonado-Molina, Ph.D., who served as director of education and training for four years,” said Walker, who served on the education committee and as associate director of HOP education and training last year. “We already have several vibrant programs and the recent addition of the doctoral program in biomedical informatics marks another major milestone for the department and its students.”
