HOP Faculty Invited to Join United States Medical Licensing Examination Committee

Matthew Gurka, Ph.D., has accepted an appointment to serve on a committee of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), the organization that administers the certification exams for medical licensure.

Gurka, who is a professor in the Department of Health Outcomes & Policy and associate director of UF’s Institute for Child Health Policy, will serve a minimum of two years on the USMLE Biostatistics and Epidemiology Test Material Development Committee. During this time, he will join other committee members in formulating the questions on the exams used to assess medical students on their knowledge of epidemiology and biostatistics, two of Gurka’s areas of expertise.

“This is such a great honor and opportunity to help ensure knowledge of biostatistical and epidemiologic concepts related to the practice of medicine,” said Gurka. “I am excited to use my academic training and years of research to help set national standards.”
